In June last year MARYMOUNT NATIONAL SCHOOL in The rower, Co. Kilkenny put out a call
for proposals for an artist to design, create and develop artwork/s for installation within their new school building.
The brief was that "the work should be informed by the local environment, the ethos and the history of the school and its rural community. It must be able to engage all pupils and it is important that the work is child-friendly , safe , bright and tactile. "
I was delighted that my proposal was the successful one. My plan is to create 8 portraits.
I've been to visit the school now several times and the pupils have done some inspirational artwork that have informed the final designs I am hinting at above.
I can't reveal those details yet as it's only fair that the pupils see it first. So for the next 3 months or more I'll be in the studio bringing these to life and will be posting the occasional sneak peeks of the work in progress.
