Realt Na Mara
This project was commissioned by the Realt na Mara Memorial committee. The base which had remained unfinished for 30 years measures 10m in diameter. To compliment the existing marble aggregate of the 3 pillars the materials chosen were varying shades
and aggregates of White resin bonded marble which were then water-jet cut to the specific shapes required. The design is based on early 17th century sea maps of Dublin Port. Each semi circular ‘compass element’
within the piece is a representation of the actual compass points found in these maps. Like most compass points they are based around a ‘star’ element. The lines emanating from the compass points configure into a star shape in the centre.
